TUTOR PROFILE – FIAZ ELSON

Fiaz Elson trained in fashion and design, fine art and silversmithing before studying Glass design gaining a BA Hons degree. She worked with Colin Reid as his senior assistant for four years before setting up her own studio practice.
Her glass sculptures are expressive in their form, provoking an emotional and intellectual response. She investigates form and volume to communicate and respond to the material but also create tension and contradictions. They explore our emotive worlds; experiences and memories that make us who we are. We all have several sides to our personalities and, consciously or unconsciously, we reveal or keep them hidden. This concept is expressed through the use of curves, angles, line, colour and space.
She has been constantly selected to show at the British Glass Biennale as well as other important exhibitions in the UK and has been selected for several important shows in Europe; representing British Glass makers at the most recent Coburg Glass Prize Germany, Modern Masters in Munich and she was one of twenty five selected makers representing British Glass at the GlazenHuis, Belgium Glass Museum.
Elson is a sort after workshop leader and teacher most recently teaching at the Royal College of Art, Farnham University, Swansea Met and the Cork Sculpture Factory. Her works are in several private and public collections in USA, Japan, Hong Kong, Europe and the UK.
