£725.00Course Outline
Engage with nature – taking the immediate environment as a source of form, texture and inspiration for casting in glass. In this four day kiln-casting course you will explore a variety of moulding techniques to translate natural forms into cast glass, working both outside in the landscape and in the studio. The basic techniques of lost-wax, mould-making, firings and annealing will be covered both in theory and in practice.

Colin Reid
Colin Reid is an internationally renowned glass artist who works principally in kiln cast glass, often combined with other media such as metal, stone and wood. He exhibits internationally and has work in over 45 museum collections worldwide as well as many private collections.
Working with high quality optical crystal, he takes inspiration from nature, architecture and everyday objects. He uses lost wax casting to create sculptures with rough highly textured areas contrasted with immaculately polished and reflective surfaces, using both clear glass and colour. Notable commissions include ‘Musa Cavendishii’, a magnificent glass table for Chatsworth House, ‘Cipher Stone’, the landmark artwork for the new GCHQ and one of the largest pieces of art glass to have been cast in the UK, and ‘Ikthus’ an intimate font in the Sacred Silver and Glass Gallery, V&A.
He is an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and an honorary life member of the of the Contemporary Glass Society.
